New Electric Vehicles for a More Sustainable Vatican

New Electric Vehicles for a More Sustainable Vatican

The Governorate of Vatican City State has recently introduced a new fleet of electric vehicles, continuing its path toward eco-friendly mobility within Vatican territory and the Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo. The initiative stems from a collaboration with Exelentia, a company specializing in zero-emission transport solutions.

Following the donation of two electric cars for the Holy Father’s personal use, the partnership has led to the delivery of a complete range of operational vehicles intended for various internal services, including the Gendarmerie, Fire Brigade, and maintenance departments.

Two main categories have been supplied: passenger vehicles and transport vehicles.
The passenger models, compact and agile, have been adapted to the needs of security and emergency units. The versions assigned to the Fire Brigade, marked with a red livery, have been customized to carry first-aid equipment, while those designated for the Gendarmerie, in white livery, support surveillance and patrol activities.

For the transport of materials and equipment, medium- and large-sized vehicles with different configurations have been introduced: fixed beds, tipper trucks, and vans. These vehicles are designed to facilitate logistical operations related to garden maintenance, internal services, and the setup of ceremonies and liturgical celebrations.

Some vehicles are equipped with removable side panels and versatile solutions for transporting plants and fragile items, reflecting a focus on practicality without compromising environmental impact.

The fleet is completed by six- and eight-seater electric shuttles, dedicated to transporting visitors within the Vatican Gardens and the Pontifical Villas, improving accessibility in a sustainable way.

This initiative strengthens Vatican City’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible solutions. The collaboration with Exelentia represents a significant opportunity to contribute to a unique sustainable mobility project, with a tangible impact on daily life and on places symbolic of faith.
